MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:
Block cheese prices remained unchanged at $1.72 per pound Monday morning following an active 12 trades reported, with one additional bid and 0 offers remaining on the trading floor. Barrel cheese prices jumped 6.25 cents per pound, moving to $1.5425 a pound with nine loads traded. There was an active six additional bids left on the floor at the end of the session, as traders look for further direction later in the week. Butter prices moved 4 cents per pound higher, at $3.34 per pound, while no loads traded as a single uncovered bid entered the market. Class III milk futures are generally higher with expiring September contracts moving 1 cent higher at $18.39 per cwt as traders adjust toward settlement price levels. October futures bounced 10 cents per cwt higher at midday with prices inching toward the $17 per cwt price market, currently at $16.68 per cwt. There is expected to be very little additional market direction seen through the end of the Monday session as traders seem focused on outside market direction. Although the stress of a government shutdown has been averted for the time being, the pressure in outside markets and early week bounce in grain trade seem to be keeping milk traders' attention elsewhere at the moment.
