Thursday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Cheese Shows Further Gains

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

LIVE CATTLE: $1.30 Lower
DOW JONES: 1123 Points Lower

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

The block cheese price increased 3.25 cents, closing at $1.74 with nine loads traded. The barrel cheese price increased 0.75 cents, closing at $1.78 with four loads traded. This is the fourth consecutive day of gains, breaking the pattern of three days or less of strength followed by weakness. There were five unfilled bids and five uncovered offers remaining at the close. There were two unfilled bids and one uncovered offer for a load of barrels remaining. The dry whey price increased 0.50 cent, closing at 48.50 cents with no loads traded. Class III futures are 5 cents lower to 9 cents higher as traders remain cautious over continued strength. The butter price increased 2 cents, closing at $2.3335 with 24 loads traded. The price initially gained 4 cents before aggressive buying ran its course and loads continued to be offered. Grade A nonfat dry milk increased a penny, closing at $1.1675 with four loads traded. Class IV futures have not yet been traded. Butter futures are 1.00 to 3.10 cents higher. Dry whey futures are steady to 1.00 cents higher.
