Thursday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Butter Slips Below $3.00

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

LIVE CATTLE: $0.40 Lower
DOW JONES: 247 Points Higher

CRUDE OIL: $0.09 Higher

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price increased 2.75 cents closing at $1.98 with three loads traded. There were no unfilled bids remaining under the market. Barrel cheese price increased by 1.25 cents with three loads traded and one uncovered offer remaining at the close. Both blocks and barrels settled back from the highs set during spot trading adding some negativity to the market. Dry whey price increased by 0.25 cents closing at 38.50 with seven loads traded. Class III futures are 17 cents lower to 1 cent higher. Trading activity has been strong with the June contract trading over 1,420 contracts. Butter price declined 2.50 cents closing at $2.9975 with 12 loads traded. Grade A nonfat dry milk price increased by 0.75 cent to close at $1.1375 with four loads traded. Class IV futures are steady to 12 cents higher. Butter futures are 0.85 cent lower to 0.32 cent higher. Dry whey futures are steady to 0.75 cent lower.
