Tuesday Closing Dairy Market Update - Global Dairy Trade Price Index up 4.2%

MILK

Class III Milk futures settled 10-30 cents lower, while Class IV settled 5-35 cents higher, continuing to make new contract highs yet again today. The Global Dairy Trade auction took place today with the trade weighted average up 4.2 percent. There were 24,836 metric tons sold at an average price of $3,571 per metric ton. Anhydrous milk fat increased 3.3 percent to $6,033 per metric ton or 43.94 per pound. Butter increased 10.3 percent to $6,516 per metric ton or 46.88 per pound. Buttermilk powder increased 1.2 percent to $2,384 per metric ton or $1.08 per pound. Cheddar cheese price increased 6.3 percent to $4,469 per metric ton or $2.03 per pound. Lactose increased 2.6 percent to $785 per metric ton or $0.37 per pound. Mozzarella declined 1.8 percent to $3,760 per metric ton or $1.71 per pound. Skim milk powder increased 4.6 percent to $2,758 per metric ton or $1.25 per pound. Whole milk powder gained 3.4 percent to $3,463 per metric ton or 42.90 per pound.

CHEESE

Block cheese prices increased 0.25 cents closing at $1.6525 with two loads traded. Barrel cheese price was 0.25 lower closing at 1.5825 with two loads traded.

BUTTER

Butter price increased to $2.7700 an increase of 2.5 cents with eight loads traded. Butter also led the way on the Global Dairy Trade auction up 10.3%. Butter futures were up 1.00-3.50 higher on the day.

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY

March corn closed down 4 cents at $4.3875. March soybeans gained 3.25 cents at $11.9950. March wheat gained 4.75 cents closing at $5.95. April live cattle climbed 3.725 closing at $186.075. April crude oil gained $0.55 closing at $72.85 per barrel. The Dow gained 174 points closing at 38,613 with the Nasdaq up 11 points closing at 15,609.
