Tuesday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Butter and Cheese Show Strong Gains

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

CORN: 19 Lower
SOYBEANS: 20 Lower
SOYBEAN MEAL: $9.50 Lower
LIVE CATTLE: $0.47 Higher
DOW JONES: 411 Points Higher
NASDAQ: 276 Points Higher
CRUDE OIL: $3.87 Lower

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price increased 7.50 cents, closing at $1.99 with three loads traded. All who came to the spot market to do business were satisfied with no bids or offers remaining at the close. Barrel cheese price remained unchanged at $1.95 with no loads traded; this swings the block/barrel spread back to normal. Butter price showed the same strength as blocks with a gain of 7.50 cents, closing at $2.06 with 10 loads traded. Price is nearing the level it was back on Jan. 21. Grade A nonfat dry milk price remained unchanged at $1.90 with two loads traded. Dry whey price declined 3 cents, closing at 81.25 cents with no loads traded. Class III futures remain mixed ranging from 13 cents lower to 17 cents higher. Class IV milk futures are 14 cents lower to 13 cents higher. Butter futures are 3.00 cents lower to 2.45 cents higher. Dry whey futures are 0.37 to 0.77 cents lower. Grain futures are under significant pressure Tuesday due to some indication Russia may not attack the Ukraine as indicated Monday. Corn and wheat did turn higher Monday on the news that they might invade on Wednesday. There is concern over the impact on corn and wheat exports from the Black Sea region which has created the volatility.
