MILK
Milk futures closed lower to end the week as spot prices showed weakness. Class III futures showed strength early in the day, pushing to new highs, but that quickly reversed as sellers became more aggressive during spot trading. Futures did not fall as much as expected with the weakness of cash but did send further caution through the market. It was anticipated cheese prices would hold but sellers were more adamant about moving products ahead of the weekend.
This should be considered as normal market movement and prices will always ebb and flow. It does not mean that the top has been reached. It just feels that way as milk prices have been so low this year and all would like to see prices being supported and higher gains continuing to unfold. The volume of dairy exports during July totaled 186,403 metric tons (mt), down 24,594 mt or 11.7% from July 2023. Year-to-date exports have totaled 1,379,014 mt, down 6.6% from the same period last year.
