Thursday Midday Dairy Market Update - Minor Gains in Cheese, Butter

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

CORN: 15 Higher
SOYBEANS: 22 Lower
SOYBEAN MEAL: $2.70 Lower
LIVE CATTLE: $0.27 Lower
DOW JONES: 403 Points Lower
NASDAQ: 127 Points Lower
CRUDE OIL: $0.02 Higher

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price increased a penny closing at $1.3625 with five loads traded. Barrel cheese price gained 1.50 cents closing at $1.3575 with 35 loads traded. Only unfilled bids remained at the close of spot trading with two unfilled bids of blocks and six unfilled bids of barrels. Dry whey declined a penny closing at 23 cents with nine loads traded. Class III futures are 23 cents lower to 2 cents higher with only the February contract showing the gain. September shows the greatest loss. Butter price increased 1.25 cents closing at $2.4775 with three loads traded. There was one unfilled bid and five uncovered offers remaining at the close. This moved the price above the trading range it has been in since late last year. Grade A nonfat dry milk price slipped 0.25 cent ending at $1.1075 with one load traded. Class IV futures are 4-7 cents higher. Butter futures are 0.67-2.25 cents higher. Dry whey futures are steady to 0.80 cent lower. USDA will release the May Dairy Products report this afternoon. There will be no Dairy Revenue Protection prices released due to the report.
