Tuesday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Cheese Shows Strong Gains

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

SOYBEANS: 15 Higher
SOYBEAN MEAL: $12.10 Higher
LIVE CATTLE: $0.97 Higher
DOW JONES: 308 Points Higher
NASDAQ: 90 Points Higher
CRUDE OIL: $1.62 Higher

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price jumped 9 cents, closing at $1.5850 with four loads traded. Buyers were aggressive, leaving an unfilled bid and uncovered offer at the close. It appears seasonal buying is increasing and with prices increasing, it is pulling more buyers in from the sideline. Continuing to purchase on an as-needed basis as sellers offer it to the market may be a thing of the past. Buyers are looking ahead to later demand. Barrel cheese price increased 5 cents, closing at $1.4575 with four loads traded. No bids or offers remained. Dry whey price declined a penny to 24 cents with 14 loads traded. Class III futures are 3 to 54 cents higher with August showing the greatest gain. Butter price remained unchanged at $2.56 with no loads traded. Grade A nonfat dry milk price declined 1.50 cents closing at $1.10 with three loads traded. Class IV futures are 15 cents lower in August, which so far is the only contract traded. Butter futures are 0.50 to 1.80 cents lower. Dry whey futures are unchanged to 0.50 cent higher.
