Thursday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Dry Whey Posts Further Gain

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

CORN: 4 Lower
SOYBEANS: 2 Higher
SOYBEAN MEAL: $5.30 Lower
LIVE CATTLE: $0.02 Higher
DOW JONES: 186 Points Higher
NASDAQ: 119 Points Higher
CRUDE OIL: $0.86 Higher

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price declined 2 cents closing at $1.8750 with no loads traded. Barrel cheese price increased 1.75 cents with nine loads traded. and price closing at $1.60. Dry whey was the star of the day with price increasing 4.50 cents closing at 40 cents with one load traded. Traders met this movement in the spot market with skepticism for a period, but Class III futures have moved to positive territory across the board with prices ranging from 2 to 16 cents higher. The weakness of blocks is keeping somewhat of a limit on price potential. Butter price increased 3 cents closing at $2.36 with one load traded. Grade A nonfat dry milk price increased a penny closing at $1.21 with no loads traded. Class IV futures are 12-19 cents higher. Butter futures are 2.30–4.85 cents higher. Dry whey futures are steady to 2.25 cents higher.
