Thursday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Butter Moves to High of the Year

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price remained unchanged at $2.2475 with no loads traded. There was an offer remaining 2 cents higher at the close of spot trading. Barrel cheese price declined 2.75 cents, ending at $2.2750, with four loads traded. Buyers and sellers took care of business with no bids or offers remaining at the close. Dry whey price increased 0.50 cent, closing at 55.50 cents, with one load traded. Butter price increased 4.50 cents, closing at $2.9350, with nine loads traded. This matches the high so far this year set on Jan. 21. There were four unfilled bids and four uncovered offers remaining at the close. Grade A nonfat dry milk gained 0.25 cent, closing at $1.87, with two loads traded. Class III futures are 14 cents lower to 19 cents higher. Nearby contracts have slipped back over 20 cents from the highs reached prior to spot trading. Class IV futures are 1-17 cents higher. Butter futures are 0.50 cent lower to 3.50 cents higher. Dry whey increased 0.75 cent to 1.40 cents higher. USDA will announce the May Federal Order class prices this afternoon.
