Thursday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Butter Shows Further Weakness

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

SOYBEAN MEAL: $1.30 Lower
LIVE CATTLE: $2.00 Lower
DOW JONES: 263 Points Lower
NASDAQ: 96 Points Lower
CRUDE OIL: $0.61 Higher

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price increased by 0.50 cent, closing at $1.8650 with eight loads traded. The barrel cheese price remained steady at $1.9125 with seven loads traded. There were six unfilled bids and one uncovered offer for blocks remaining at the close. There were nine unfilled bids for loads of barrels with no offers. The dry whey price increased a penny, closing at 51 cents with one load traded. Traders viewed this positively with Class III futures 8 to 34 cents higher through December and mixed prices thereafter. The butter price declined by 2.50 cents, closing at $3.1050 with 21 loads traded. There were four unfilled bids and two uncovered offers remaining. Grade A nonfat dry milk price gained 2.50 cents, closing at $1.1950 with one load traded. Class IV futures have not yet been traded. Butter futures are 1.00 to 4.00 cents lower. Dry whey futures are 0.57 to 1.30 cents higher.
