Fluid Milk and Cream - Western U.S. Report 44

Temperatures in the Central Valley area of California got up to the 70s at their highest points. However, overnight temperatures in the Central Valley dipped into the 40s. No big increases in milk production were reported by handlers this week. However, more availability of milk for spot load buyers is reported. Some handlers note preliminary records indicate October 2023 milk production is up compared to September 2023 milk production, but down compared to October 2022 milk production. Demand for Class I is strong. Class II, III, and IV demands are steady.

In Arizona, temperatures were in the 80s this week, compared to hitting triple digits during the prior week, giving some improvement to cow comfort. However, some handlers note week to week differences in milk production remain flat. Spot milk loads are tight. Demands for Classes I and IV are strong to steady. Demands for Classes II and III are steady.

In New Mexico, temperatures dropped down to the 40s/50s during this week. Farm level milk output is seasonally lower and week to week milk production changes are reported as marginal. Class demands are unchanged from the previous week.

Temperatures throughout the Pacific Northwest ranged from the higher 30s to the lower 60s this week. Some below freezing nights and mornings are reported by stakeholders. Some handlers indicate farm level milk output is lower this week compared to the prior week and slightly under anticipated end of month levels. Class I and IV demands are strong to steady. Class II and III demands are steady.

In the mountain states of Idaho and Utah temperatures were in the 40s/50s this week. In the mountain state of Colorado temperatures dropped low enough to bring some snowy weather to contend with. Handlers indicate flat to increasing week-to-week differences in farm level milk output recently. Spot milk load availability has loosened some this week. Demands for all Classes are unchanged from the prior week.

Although cream is on the tight end of the spectrum overall, some parts of the region are slightly looser compared to last week. Cream multiples are unchanged. Demand for cream is strong to steady. Availability of condensed skim milk is somewhat looser.
