Thursday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Cheese Prices Move Higher

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

LIVE CATTLE: $0.07 Higher
DOW JONES: 228 Points Lower
NASDAQ: 12 Points Higher
CRUDE OIL: $0.87 Higher

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price increased 3.50 cents closing at $2.10 with 5 loads traded. Barrel cheese price increased 8 cents closing at $1.8975 with seven loads traded. Trading activity picked up from what it has been for a period as buyers likely needed to fill orders. It was interesting to see two loads of barrel cheese traded during regular trading period and five loads traded during the conditional extension period at the end of trading. Sellers stepped up to fill the bids allowing buyers to go home satisfied. Dry whey price remained unchanged at 45 cents with no loads traded. Class III futures are 14 cents lower to 55 cents higher. The greatest gain is seen in the January contract which moved as much as 69 cents higher at one point. The only loss is seen in the June contract which has not traded since spot trading. Butter price declined 4.50 cents closing at $2.88 with two loads traded. Grade A nonfat dry milk price declined 1.25 cents closing at $1.3475 with four loads traded. Class III futures are mixed with only two contracts traded. January was down 11 cents while November 2023 was up 5 cents. Butter futures are 1.00-3.72 cents lower. Dry whey futures are 0.20-1.37 cents higher.
