Wednesday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Butter Price Sets New Record

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

CORN: 1 Lower
SOYBEANS: 12 Lower
SOYBEAN MEAL: $3.10 Higher
LIVE CATTLE: $0.25 Lower
DOW JONES: 290 Points Higher
NASDAQ: 149 Points Higher
CRUDE OIL: $4.19 Lower

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price jumped 9 cents closing at $1.85 with no loads traded. A buyer was aggressive but unable to find a willing seller. Barrel cheese price increased 6 cents closing at $1.9350 with one load traded. There were two unfilled bids and two uncovered offers remaining at the close. Dry whey price remained unchanged at 44.50 cents. Butter price increased 2.75 cents to a record high of $3.1475 with nine loads traded. Not only was volume surprising at the higher price, but the fact that there were 13 unfilled bids remaining at the close points to prices continuing higher. Grade A nonfat dry milk price declined 0.75 closing at $1.53 with four loads traded. Class III futures are 5-35 cents higher. Class IV futures are 5-23 cents higher. Butter futures are 0.02 cents lower to 3.25 cents higher. Dry whey futures are steady to 0.60 cents higher.
