Thursday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Buyers Step Back Into Cheese

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

CORN: 1 Higher
SOYBEANS: 2 Higher
SOYBEAN MEAL: $0.30 Lower
LIVE CATTLE: $0.30 Higher
DOW JONES: 365 Points Lower
NASDAQ: 273 Points Lower
CRUDE OIL: $2.02 Lower

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Block cheese price increased 0.50 cent, closing at $1.9875 with no loads traded. Barrel cheese price increased 1.50 cents, closing at $1.9350 with seven loads traded. Barrels initially declined 0.25 cent before buyers became more aggressive. Most of the trading activity took place at the unchanged price of $1.92 with the last trade taking place setting the closing price. Dry whey price remained unchanged at 81 cents with three loads traded. Butter was the surprise with price falling 11 cents, closing at $2.69 with six loads traded. Grade A nonfat dry milk price declined 2 cents, closing at $1.87 with three loads traded. Class III futures are 1 to 26 cents higher with May showing the greatest strength. Class IV futures are 23 to 37 cents lower. Butter futures are 2.52 cents lower to 1.00 cents higher. Dry whey futures are 1.95 cents lower to 0.90 cent higher.
