Tuesday Midday Dairy Market Summary - Milk Futures Jump

OUTSIDE MARKETS SUMMARY:

SOYBEAN MEAL: $0.10 Lower
LIVE CATTLE: $1.45 Higher
DOW JONES: 105 Points Higher
NASDAQ: 180 Points Higher
CRUDE OIL: $2.94 Higher

MIDDAY MARKET UPDATE:

Buyers of block cheese stepped in Tuesday to buy the break and increase ownership. The losses of the past few days were nearly regained Tuesday. Price increased 5.25 cents, closing at $2.0475, with three loads traded. Barrel cheese price remained unchanged at $1.83 with no loads traded. Dry whey price increased 0.50 cent, closing at 76.25 cents, with one load traded. Class III futures exploded higher with prices reaching limit up in February through May contracts. Futures have not remained limit up but remaining strong. Futures range from 10-70 cents higher. Butter price gained 6.25 cents, closing at $2.8425, with eight loads traded. Grade A nonfat dry milk price increased 1.75 cents, closing at $1.74, with six loads traded. Class IV futures are 11-53 cents higher with trading mainly taking place in the second half of the year. This is very unusual. Butter futures are 1.02 to 7.50 cents higher. Dry whey futures are 0.75 cent lower to 3.47 cents higher.
